Whoops I do reel to reels now!
January 6, 2023
Christmas is now past, and no places that I applied for a job too has gotten back to me. So I have incidentally gotten really into reel to reel players.
Now I have three mostly restored and a fourth one on the way. Let me show you some of what I have done.
These had a lot of external damage, and dirt to clean up originally while some had missing components like a guide reel or maintenance needed like oiling of motors and gluing badges that had fallen off.
The WEBCOR gave me the most problems as it is wood covered in a unique paper that required re-gluing no to mention cleaning of the various tubes that amplify the sound.
Ooops! I picked up an esoteric and odd hobby with no real world application, who would have guessed.
The only way I could get crazier is by starting to buy and restore wire recorders. That being said I am looking for one.
Suffice it to say I enjoy working on and cleaning these machines. I am enjoying it so much that I am buying period equipment to test and diagnose problems in them such as my wow and flutter meter that you can see in one of my pictures shown above.
I have cleaned up and fixed up a

Now I am waiting on a Tr-500 Transicorder that needs a lot of love and a bit of silver paint.
It is quite cute it looks like an odd phone.
With so many good and valuable resources online about reel to reel players it makes it hard to come up with a really novel video as I want to talk about them and make it interesting.
Though I might just make a general overview of the machines just for expanding the resources and knowledge base of these machines.
That’s what I have been doing this last month or two!
