“This year I lose my mind” is a collection of songs made to fight against the worries that keep me from expressing myself.

I learned of 2 Mello’s Music accidentally by mistaking his album “Memories of Tokyo-to” as the real soundtrack to “Jet Set Radio” for the Sega dreamcast.
This was a good mistake to make, after all it was inspired by it.
Memories of Tokyo-To is a dedication to the music and style of the Jet Set Radio series of games. The soundtrack’s vibrant, hip-hop inspired attitude has entertained me for over half of my life and I am finally giving back.

While this album is one of my favorites, and made my quest to get a Sega Dream Cast even more urgent, there is something that can be lost when an album is popular.
Creative freedom.
When an album becomes popular it brings expectations on what the artist is from now on.
As well as what he can do.
2 Mello ,in my mind, was attached to a franchise of style and music for quite some time.
A struggle for 2 Mello and I assume many other artists.
Many of 2 Mello’s albums seem a response to the style of work he did before as if to say he is changing, learning and deciding to do something different.
Out with the old and in with the new.
For every highly focused and “inspired by album”, there is a breaking of the mold style or unique personal album.
His works to me seem a constant battle with what people are expecting and buying and what he desires to do with his music.
Any musician will know that it feels good to make something with no expectations or limitations, and that’s what this is.

“This Year I Lose My Mind” is his latest venture in forgetting about his worries about not being able to make a living as an artist and choosing to do what he loves instead.
2 Mello’s “t.m.o” from his latest album is a beautiful track focusing on his struggles with people attempting to buy his talent and being used by those who try to be his friend for profit. Which seams emblemetic of his struggles as an artist.
The struggle to make something true to yourself or do something connected to a franchise to make money and live.
I am glad he decided to be himself.
His music inspires learning of unique styles, and encourage experimentation to any artist.
As well as encouraging you to be true to yourself.
At least that is what I get out of his album, and album history.
In fact I listening to it right now on CD as I write this article. A much needed boost as I go through college.
A very ugly picture of me enjoying 2 Mello’s Music.
“I wanted to explore an even wider range of genres and sounds than I did on the first album and claim my own lane of style rather than sticking to what has been done.”

In summary buy his album I find it great.
The music’s unique Hip-hop, Rap, and Electronic stylings are not only good but refreshing to listen to.
While what lyrics there are talk about his struggles as an artist trying to do what he desires, the music keeps a very upbeat attitude to the situation.
The story behind his motivations to produce a work like this instead of something safe is something I personally needed in my life.
I think many others need it too.
He stood up and chose to have an artistic vision.
That is something to be admired, and emulated.
I enjoyed it, and I hope you will too. Maybe you’ll decide to lose your mind as well.
