If you like fun, funny, action packed adventures that are backed by great Funky Jazz music. Do yourself a favor and enjoy their latest movie “Lupin the Third: The First”.

Lupin the third started as a manga in 1967, by a man know only as Monkey Punch. To say it took off since then would be an understatement.

The latest movie shed its more 2D format to a very good quality 3D animation keeping with the style and look of the older series. Though the series started in 1967 it is still going till this day in movies and tv shows.

Lupin the Third is an odd series to describe. One could say something along the line of “it is about a group of thieves stealing treasure” or a “more adult Scooby-doo”.

Though it is so much more than that.

It represents a lot of things.

Lupin the Third: The Castle of Cagliostro is the first film Hayao Miyazaki directed. When you compare that movie to the others in the series you can really see not only his style, but his themes come out in the work.

For many animators it was a beginning, for some it was the start of archetypes in animation, if you like the Anime Cowboy Bebop you have Lupin the Third to thank, many of the characters were directly inspired from the cast of lupin the Third.

For me it is an inspiration, I spent many hours listening to the dubs.

Lupin the Third is a show that can take itself very seriously, but it mostly finds itself on a happy if not goofy note.

The voice acting is always good, but sometimes you have to wonder if you are listening to an abridged series or the original dub. The best thing is that either way, it is close to the intention of the source material.

For some it is just good fun.

While some iterations are better than others and some have different intentions than others. I can safely say you will enjoy looking into this long series of a Master thief, his Gun-man best friend, backstabbing lover, samurai associate and Interpol Investigator.
